Why top and base coats are really the same thing

Wednesday 18 Jan 2017

Ever wondered what the difference is between a top and base coat? There’s not much to it, really.

Top and base coats are made from the same ingredients. That’s why we use a two in one.

A normal basecoat is made up with more solid particles to fill in the ridges on the nail, creating a smooth flat surface, whereas a topcoat has less solids to make it dry faster. In our opinion, you don’t need a base coat unless you are using colours that’ll stain your nails (cheap products are guilty of this).

Other companies will market two products but why buy more when there’s no need? Adding another (base) layer just makes another layer that could chip. Save those few extra dollars on another shade, we say!
