Nail polish should always be stored in a cool, dark place. Don't store nail polish in the fridge. Temperature variation i.e. from the fridge and from extreme heat, will damage the formulation, resulting in gluggy varnish or colour separation. Storing nail polish in direct sunlight will also change the colour of the polish, so don't take your polish sunbathing with you.
Good question. Residual oil on the nail is the main cause of chipping. Here is a 5-step guide to nail polish application that'll help prevent chipping:
1. Apply a Kester Black nail polish remover to a cotton pad and swipe over each fingernail (painted or not), to remove oily residue.
2. Using your favourite Kester Black colour, glide the brush over each fingernail, coating the surface from base to tip. Allow 5 minutes to dry.
3. Apply a second layer of colour to each nail, covering any streaks from the initial coat. Give each coat 5 minutes to set.
4. Seal your colour with a Kester Black top coat. Take extra care to cover the tips of your nails to avoid chipping and allow another 5 minutes for the finished product to dry.
5. To refresh and prolong your manicure, apply Kester Black top coat to the tips of your nails every 2 days. This is a top tip from our resident nail art professional. Trust us, it's a goodie!
In making non-fluorescent colours, we start with a white base and add pigment. In making Fluro colours, we have to start with a clear base and add the pigment to that, which makes the process a little different. Because the fluoro colours don't contain any white base, they require a few more coats to cover the nail and become opaque. If they did contain a white base, they wouldn’t be flouro, they’d be pastel instead.
Totally 100% planet-friendly biodegradable glitter! Yuss.
A nail polish thinner will restore your nail polish back to new. A few drops will do. As tempting as it might be, never use nail polish remover to thin your polish! It slowly degrades the formula of your nail colour, so in a month's time, it'll be watery and gross. Not cute.
